Karolina Ramqvist

Karolina Ramqvist was born in 1976 in Gothenburg. She is a journalist and one of the most influential writers of her generation. She has published five novels and her first big success came with The Girlfriend (2009), also adapted for theatre. The generational novel The Beginning (2012) rose to a cult status and acknowledged Ramqvist as a powerful literary voice asking important questions instead of giving superficial answers. Karolina Ramqvist is focused on the contemporary issues of sexuality, commercialisation, isolation and belonging, fostering a style which is both raw and lyrical, suspenseful and meditative. She wrote the screenplay for the short film Cupcake and in 2015 she published the novel The White City, which won the prestigious P.O. Enquist Literary Prize. The book The Bear Woman came out in 2019 and the novel Bread and Milk in 2022. She lives and writes in Stockholm.
