Mate Matišić
Mate Matišić was born in 1965 in Ričice near Imotski. He graduated from the Faculty of Law in Zagreb. He worked at HRT – drama program of the Croatian Radio and at Jadran film and is currently Full Professor at the Department of Dramaturgy at the Academy of Dramatic Arts in Zagreb. He has written the following plays: "Bljesak zlatnog zuba", "Legenda o svetom Muhli", "Božićna bajka", "Cinco i Marinko", "Anđeli Babilona", "Svećenikova djeca" (The Priest's Children), "Sinovi umiru prvi", "Ničiji sin", "Žena bez tijela", "Balon", "Fine mrtve djevojke", and the following dramatic triologies: "Ljudi od voska"(Men of Wax) ("Obožavateljica", "Prvi musliman u selu", "Ispod perike") and "Ja sam ona koja nisam" ("Hrvatska Lolita", "Porno film", "Žena djevojčica"), as well as the tetralogy "Moji tužni monstrumi" ("Gledaj me u oči", "Mi tu", "Autogram za Milicu", "Kolumna mrtvog djeteta"), and one-act plays such as "Ne kopaj po groblju, molim te" and "General". Matišić is also a screenwriter or co-screenwriter of the following feature-length live-action films: “Život sa stricem” (My Uncle’s Legacy), “Kad mrtvi zapjevaju” (When the Dead Start Singing), “Fine mrtve djevojke” (Fine Dead Girls), “Priča iz Hrvatske” (A Story from Croatia), “Infekcija” (Infection), “Ničiji sin” (No One’s Son), “Nije kraj” (Will Not End Here), “Cvjetni trg” (Flower Square), “Svećenikova djeca” (The Priest’s Children), “S one strane” (On the Other Side), and “Koja je ovo država” (What a Country!). In addition to writing, he composes music for films and theater. His plays have been translated into English, Russian, German, Macedonian, Serbian, Polish, Slovenian, Turkish, Finnish, Lithuanian, and other languages and have been included in several Croatian and international anthologies. For his literary and musical work, he has received numerous domestic and international awards.
