Tereza Kesovija

Tereza Kesovija was born in 1938 in Dubrovnik, where she finished primary music school. As a graduate of the Dubrovnik High School of Music, Flute Department, she won the Grand Prix at a competition of young musicians in Ljubljana in 1958. She began her music studies at the Academy of Music in Zagreb, playing at the same time in the Zagreb Radio Symphony Orchestra. After graduation, her career as a singer began, which evolved in Yugoslavia at the time, but also abroad, mostly in France, the highlights of which were two performances at the Olympia, the first in 1988 and the second, a comeback, in 2007. She performed at all the most important festivals in this part of the world, but also in Bratislava, Rio de Janeiro, Mexico, Sopot, Antalya, Bern... She performed twice at the Eurovision Song Contest: in 1966 as a representative of the Principality of Monaco, and in 1972, when she represented Yugoslavia. She is the winner of the Vlaho Paljetak and Đeki Srbljenović Awards, Porin Award, as well as the lifetime achievement award of the City of Dubrovnik and Konavle Municipality. She was awarded the Order of Danica Hrvatska with the image of Marko Marulić and was declared a Knight of the High Order for Contributions to Culture (Chevalier des Arts et Lettres), awarded by the President of the Republic of France. She is also the holder of the Golden Charter of Humanism.
