Kaja Širok

Dr. Kaja Širok is a historian, museologist, and expert in cultural heritage. She is an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Humanities at the University of Gorizia, where she teaches Cultural History and Theories of Memory. From 2011 to 2021, she served as the director of the National Museum of Contemporary History of Slovenia, and in 2022, she took on the leadership of the “GO! 2025 Nova Gorica – Gorizia: the European Capital of Culture project”. That same year, she was appointed State Secretary in the Office of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia. Since 2024, she has been working as an advisor and curator for a new museum located on the border between Slovenia and Italy. Kaja Širok is an award-winning scholar and the author of numerous scientific publications. She is a member of the Academic Council of the House of European History in Brussels, and since 2022, she has been a member of the Executive Board of the International Council of Museums (ICOM) and the National Council for Culture of the Republic of Slovenia.
