Robert Matijašić
Robert Matijašić was born in Pula on July 26, 1957. He graduated in Archaeology and English language and literature from the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Zagreb in 1979. He worked at the Archaeological Museum of Istria in Pula as a curator at the Department of Ancient Archaeology (1979–1996). From 1991 to 1994, he was the Museum’s director. He completed his postgraduate studies in 1985 and his doctorate in 1994 at the University of Zagreb. Since 1991, he has worked as a visiting lecturer at the Faculty of Education in Rijeka (now the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences) and, since 1996, he has worked at the today’s Faculty of Humanities at the Juraj Dobrila University of Pula. He is a Full Professor with tenure, teaching Ancient History and Classical Archaeology. He also served as a Vice Dean and Dean of the Faculty, and a Vice Rector and Rector of the University. Matijašić has participated in over 120 conferences, roundtables, congresses, symposiums, and scientific meetings both in Croatia and abroad. He has published nine books, more than 120 scientific papers in journals and proceedings in both Croatia and abroad, and around 100 professional and review articles. He has edited seven books and translated several works. He has been a collaborator and leader of scientific projects funded by the Ministry of Science, Education and Sports, the European Union, and the Croatian Science Foundation. He is a member of evaluation panels for the Croatian Science Foundation (HRZZ), the Slovenian Research Agency, and the Italian Ministry of Higher Education and Science. He was the chief editor of the journal Tabula, and is an editor of the journal Problemi sjevernog Jadrana (The Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts (HAZU) – Rijeka), and is also a member of the editorial boards and scientific councils of journals in Koper, Pisa, Aquileia, Trieste, Macerata, Rijeka, and Padua. He has received numerous awards and recognitions, one of which is the 2023 "Don Frane Bulić" Award for life achievements from the Croatian Archaeological Society. He was an associate member of the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts and since May, 2024 he is a full member.
