Maurizio Levak
Maurizio Levak was born in Pula in 1967. He graduated in History and Croatian language and literature at the Faculty of Humanities in Pula in 2000. He acquired his Master’s degree in 2005 and earned his doctorate in 2009 at the Department of History of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Zagreb. Since 2009, he has been employed as a Teaching Assistant, and since 2011, as an Assistant Professor at the Department of History at the Faculty of Humanities, Juraj Dobrila University in Pula, where he teaches General and Regional Medieval History. In 2023, he became Head of the Department of History. His main field of expertise is the medieval history of the Northern Adriatic, particularly of the early Middle Ages. He publishes research and professional papers, is a co-author of several books, and the author of the monograph "Slaveni vojvode Ivana. Kolonizacija Slavena u Istri u početnom razdoblju franačke uprave" (2007). He is co-founder of the Istrian Historical Society, a life-long chief editor of its annual publication Histria, and head of the online encyclopaedia Istrapedia project.
