Maurizio Levak

Maurizio Levak was born in Pula in 1967. He obtained a degree in History and Croatian Language and Literature from the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Pula, and obtained his master’s and doctoral degrees at the Department of History of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Zagreb. Since 2000, he has been working at the Department of History of the University of Pula „Juraj Dobrila“, where he is head of the Department and teaches general and regional history of the Middle Ages. His main area of interest is the medieval history of the Northern Adriatic region, particularly the Early Middle Ages. In addition to a number of scholarly and professional papers, he has published several books as a co-author and one monograph as a sole author („Slaveni vojvode Ivana. Kolonizacija Slavena u Istri u početnom razdoblju franačke uprave“, Zagreb 2007.). He is the president of the Istrian Historical Society, of which he was one of the founders and the editor-in-chief of the first 13 issues of its annual publication „Histria“. He is the head of the „Istrapedia“ online encyclopaedia project.
