Dimitri Brečević
The winemaker Dimitri Brečević was born in France, where he studied enology in Bordeaux before moving to Istria, his father’s homeland. Brečević’s mother hails from the French town of Jurançon, a region renowned for its white wines, so it’s no surprise that wine has become not only his profession but also his passion. After graduating in 2002, he worked at wineries around the world (Domaine de Chevalier in France, Canterbury House Winery in New Zealand). In 2006, he established his own winery in Buzet, Istria, naming it Piquentum after the Latin name for Buzet. Piquentum offers the typical aromas of Istrian Malvasia, Refosco, and Rosé in a completely honest way. The winery focuses on wines that require more time to mature, allowing them to develop wonderful secondary and tertiary aromas. Dimitri Brečević strives to understand the grapes, the land, and the consumer, aiming to uncover the truth and character of the Istrian terroir.
