Dinko Telećan

Dinko Telećan was born in 1974 in Zagreb, where he graduated in philosophy and English studies at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at the end of the 20th century. At the same faculty, he also studied Sinology. He has published seven poetry collections — the latest is "Knjiga posjeta" (Book of Visits) from 2023, and he is preparing "Detalji u mraku" (Details in the Dark) — as well as two essay books, three travel books, and one novel. Short selections from his oeuvre have been translated into about fifteen languages, and he himself translates from English, Spanish, Chinese, and Slovenian. So far, around one hundred of his translations have been published. Among the authors he has translated are Julio Cortázar, Robert Graves, J. R. Jiménez, Octavio Paz, Ernesto Sabato, George Steiner, H. D. Thoreau, and Xi Chuan. He has participated in numerous literary festivals and stayed at many writers’ residencies in Asia and Europe. He is the recipient of several literary awards and has been repeatedly recognized for his literary translation work, including the "Iso Velikanović" Award in 2017 for his translation of Graves’ "Bijela božica" (The White Goddess). He is the honorary consul of the Republic of Užupis in Zagreb.
