Loredana Bogliun

Loredana Bogliun was born in Pula in 1955 and comes from an Italian family from Vodnjan. She writes poetry in the Vodnjan dialect, an ancient Istro-Romanian idiom. She devoted herself early to literary translation and has been awarded several times in the Istria Nobilissima competition. She has edited cultural journals such as la battana, In aspre rimE - quaderni delle letterature dialettali e delle lingue minori, and Filigrane, culture letterarie. She is the founder of the cultural event S poezijom u Vodnjanu (With Poetry in Vodnjan). At the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences of the University of Pula, as well as in Rijeka and Trieste, she taught psychology and sociology. Before that, she worked as a psychologist at the Italian Primary School in Buje, as principal of the Italian High School in Buje, and as a researcher at the Institute of Sociology in Ljubljana. She served two terms as vice-president of the Executive Council of Istria County. She has conducted research in ethnic studies and published several scholarly articles.Her poetry has been translated into several languages and published in various anthologies and literary journals. Literary criticism has examined her work in depth. Franco Brevini, in Izgubljene riječi. Narječja i pjesništvo našega stoljeća (Lost Words: Dialects and Poetry of Our Century, Einaudi, Torino 1990), included her among the Italian dialect poets of the 20th century. Among her notable publications are Poesie, the bilingual edition Ma∫ere / Gromače / Muri a secco, the multilingual edition La peicia, Soun la poiana, Graspi / Grappoli, sfisse / fessure spiragli, Par Creisto inseina imbroio, La peicia, In tal seilensio / Va tišine / U tišini / Nel silenzio, and Me paro la madona / Moj oče mati božja. Tamara Obrovac has set some of her poems to music and performed them, later releasing them on the DVDs Transhistria and Panphonia Istriana.
