Šimun Cimerman
Šimun Cimerman was born in Zagreb in 1974. He graduated in Political Science from the University of Southern California (USC) in 1998. From 1991 to 1995, he played for the Croatian Academic Water Polo Club “Mladost” in Zagreb, becoming a four-time Croatian champion and European runner-up. From 1995 to 1998, he played for the USC University water polo team, finishing as runner-up in the United States three times. In 1998, he began participating in extreme sports and, as a member of the first Croatian adventure team, took part in the Discovery Eco Challenge Morocco, a 700-kilometer survival race, and in 1999, in the same race in Patagonia. In 2002, he was part of the German team in the 1,000-kilometer adventure race Raid Gauloises Vietnam, the longest in history, and in 2007, he competed in South America’s toughest race, Desafio de los Andes in Chile and Argentina. In 2000, he began organizing adventure, trekking, and trail races in Croatia, of which he was also the initiator. Over 25 years, he has organized more than 150 different outdoor races and events at over 40 locations in Croatia, Slovenia, Montenegro, and Bosnia and Herzegovina. During his studies in Los Angeles, he completed one year of jazz piano and is a passionate jazz musician. He combined his passion for mountains, adventure, and history in the book Bitka na Sutjesci – Pakao u raju (The Battle of Sutjeska – Hell in Paradise).
