Jagna Pogačnik
Jagna Pogačnik (1969) is a literary critic and translator. She graduated in Croatian studies and South Slavic philology from the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Zagreb. Since 1989, she has been publishing literary reviews, essays, and translations in newspapers, magazines, and radio programs. She worked as a literary critic for Jutarnji list, and today writes reviews for Bestbook, a supplement of the weekly Express, and recommends books on the television program Good Morning, Croatia. Since 2021, she has been on the editorial board of the Croatian Writers’ Association’s web portal Kritika h,d,p. She edited the series konTEKST (EPH and Novi liber), and since 2020 has occasionally edited books for the publishing house Hena com. Since 2009, she has led creative writing workshops focused on literary criticism and prose. She has served on numerous literary award juries. As a critic and moderator, she participates in literary events and festivals, collaborating with various cultural institutions and publishers in Croatia and abroad. She has published a selection of Croatian fantasy prose, Prodavaonica tajni (The Shop of Secrets, 2001); collections of literary criticism: Backstage (2002), Proza poslije FAK-a (Prose After FAK, 2006), Kombajn na književnom polju (A Combine in the Literary Field, 2012); a selection of new Croatian prose, Seks&grad u novoj hrvatskoj prozi (Sex & the City in New Croatian Prose, 2004); selected short stories in Najbolje hrvatske priče 2005 (The Best Croatian Stories 2005, 2006); the anthology of contemporary Croatian prose Tko govori, tko piše (Who Speaks, Who Writes, 2008); and Područje signala, mapiranje suvremene proze u Hrvatskoj 2000–2020 (Signal Zone: Mapping Contemporary Prose in Croatia 2000–2020, 2024). She has translated from Slovene around a hundred literary and scholarly texts published in periodicals, about ten radio plays, and around sixty books by contemporary Slovenian prose writers. In 2000, she received the Kulturkontakt International Award in Vienna for her translation work. She is a member of the Croatian Writers’ Association (HDP), the Croatian Literary Translators’ Association (HKDP), and the Croatian Freelance Artists' Association (HZSU).
