Nada Galant

Nada Galant (Pula, 1961) graduated from the Faculty of Education in Rijeka and studied librarianship at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Zagreb. She lives in Vidulini near Žminj and works at the Žminj Library, part of the City Library and Reading Room Pula, as well as at the Čakavian Parliament. She is a member of the Istrian branch of the Croatian Writers’ Association (DHK) and the Croatian Writers’ Society in Zagreb, as well as the Kajkavian Society from Zagreb. Her work is included in anthologies such as Istarska pjesmarica (Istrian Songbook) by M. Strčić, I ča i što i kaj (Poetry in All Croatian Dialects) by B. Biletić, Čakavsko pjesništvo XX. stoljeća (Čakavian Poetry of the 20th Century) by M. Stojević, the virtual anthology of contemporary Croatian poetry edited by Tomislav Marijan Bilosnić on the Akademija Art portal, and in the graphic-poetry collection Istarski rukopisi – Caligrafie istriane (Istrian Manuscripts – Caligrafie Istriane) with Karlo Paliska, as well as in various journals and anthologies.

She has published poetry collections including Uroki ruok, Hćeri Evine, Ulaz u večernju svjetlost (co-authored), Neka buo, Uozlji d.o.o., Koluori, žuhko, Prva sreda na mesecu (co-authored), and Zuz zit. She translated Antoine de Saint-Exupéry’s The Little Prince into the Žminj dialect (Minji kraljić). She serves as secretary of the editorial board of the 2018 revived edition of Istra kroz stoljeća (Istria Through the Centuries). Her poems have been set to music by Tamara Obrovac and Tomislav Uhlik, with performances by Marija Kuhar Šoša. She has received the International Histria Award for Dialect Poetry (2000 and 2004), the Žminj Municipality Award (2007), the Drago Gervais Award for the best literary work in a Čakavian dialect for her collection Neka buo, the Mate Balota Award for the manuscript of Uozlji d.o.o. (2010), the second prize for a short story at Petar Miloš in Tomislavgrad (2024), and the Žminj Municipality Lifetime Achievement Award (2025).
