Sergio Segio

Sergio Segio was born in Pula in 1955. He grew up and was educated in Milan. He is the director of the nonprofit organization Società INformazione. He is the founder and editor of 21 editions of Rapporto sui diritti globali (Report on Global Rights, Ediesse-Futura edizioni, 2003–2021; Milieu edizioni, 2022 and 2023), as well as the series Quaderni dei diritti globali (Notebooks on Global Rights, Milieu edizioni), in which he edited titles such as Insicuri da morire – Le vittime sul lavoro nel mondo (Unsafe to Death – Victims of Labor Worldwide, 2022), Dopo l’Ucraina – Crimini di guerra e giustizia internazionale (After Ukraine – War Crimes and International Justice, 2022), and Droghe e diritti umani (Drugs and Human Rights, 2022). He also edited Atef Abu Saif’s book Diario di un genocidio – 60 giorni sotto le bombe a Gaza (Diary of a Genocide – 60 Days under Bombs in Gaza, Fuoriscena, 2024). He authored the monograph Partiti politici (Political Parties) and the essay Storia politica italiana 1988–1997 (Political History of Italy 1988–1997). His books include Miccia corta (Short Fuse, DeriveApprodi, 2005 and 2009; expanded edition Milieu, 2017 and 2022) and Una vita in Prima Linea (A Life in Prima Linea, Rizzoli, 2006). His most recent work is Globalizzare i diritti – Una memoria critica per comprendere e cambiare il mondo (Globalizing Rights – A Critical Memory to Understand and Change the World, Milieu, 2023). Under the pseudonym Sirio Sundance, he published Sbagliavamo da professionisti – Poesie di un altro tempo (We Made Professional Mistakes – Poems from Another Time, self-published, 2024). He is also the author of numerous encyclopedia entries, two plays, and a co-author of several books. He has had a long-term collaboration with CGIL, the largest trade union in Italy.
