Silvana Vranić

Silvana Vranić was born in Rijeka in 1961. She graduated in Croatian or Serbian Language and Literature, with a teaching focus, from the Faculty of Education in 1985, defending the thesis Fonologija mjesnoga govora Metajne (Phonology of the Local Speech of Metajna). She earned her master’s degree at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Zagreb with the thesis Fonologija čakavskih govora otoka Paga (Phonology of the Chakavian Dialects of the Island of Pag). She defended her doctoral dissertation Čakavski ekavski govori: sustav i podsustavi (Chakavian Ekavian Dialects: System and Subsystems) in 1999 at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Rijeka. She teaches several courses on dialectology at undergraduate and graduate Croatian studies programs and at the Postgraduate University Study of History and Dialectology of the Croatian Language at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Rijeka. She has lectured at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Juraj Dobrila University of Pula, the Teacher Training Faculty in Rijeka and its Gospić branch, and at the Postgraduate Doctoral University Study of Croatian Studies at the University of Zagreb. She has been a guest lecturer at the Department of Slavic Studies, University of Ljubljana, the Harriman Institute (Columbia University, New York), the University of Bern, Macquarie University (Sydney, Australia), Jagiellonian University in Krakow, and Charles University in Prague. She has published over 90 scholarly papers and more than 30 professional works in the field of linguistics and has edited 13 books. She has participated in around seventy scientific conferences and symposia both domestically and internationally, and has chaired about ten scientific and professional gatherings. She has been a member of the editorial board of Fluminensia since 2010 and served as editor-in-chief from 2013 to 2017. She has been on the editorial board of the Academy’s journal Problemi sjevernog Jadrana since 2020, and since 2025 she has served as editor-in-chief of the Academy’s journal Hrvatski dijalektološki zbornik.
