David Diković

Southern Istria has been an agricultural region since antiquity, where hardworking people cultivated the land and planted numerous crops, with olives and grapevines being the most widespread. Most of the arable land consists of barren red soil and small plots that have been passed down from generation to generation, which Mate Balota also described in detail in his well-known novel „Tijesna zemlja“. It is precisely at the centre of the novel’s setting, in the village of Filipana, that the Diković family has lived since ancient times. Due to the need for employment, over the past sixty years part of the family has moved to the city. In 2015, after completing his education and internships at several eminent wineries, the young winemaker David Diković decided to return to his family estate and start his own winery. With the help of his family, he renovated an old stable, which today is a modern boutique winery with a small tasting room and shop. Today, he is present on the market with four wine labels, two of which are from his line of fresh wines and two from his aged line. The winery’s flagships are the young Istrian Malvasia and the aged Refošk Carnera.
