Valentina Zigante

The medieval settlement of Kostanjica, located not far from Grožnjan, overlooks the valley of the Mirna River. It was once known for the boatmen who transported goods along the Mirna all the way to the sea, and today it is renowned above all in the world of wine. The Zigante family is one of the producers from this region. Their grandparents began wine production long ago. Wine was made for personal use and, as they used to say, only “for the home.” Tradition and passion tie them to the vine and to wine, and they are also proud that their family included master coopers. Their great-grandfather Giovanni, for example, skilfully crafted his own barrels in which he stored the wine he produced himself. The favorable location and microclimate supported the development of winemaking on their estate, so they continued the eighty-year-old tradition using modern knowledge and technology. Thanks to their experience and the new techniques they have recently adopted, today they can boast the production of wines with a designation of geographical origin. In addition to the many awards they have won, they are delighted by the numerous compliments they receive directly from wine lovers.
