Kader Abdolah

Kader Abdolah, whose real name is Hossein Sadjadi Ghaemmaghami Farahani, was born in 1954 in Iran. Due to his clandestine political activities, he had to flee his homeland in 1986. After two years of wandering, he arrived in the Netherlands as a political refugee, where he immediately began learning Dutch in order to fulfill his dream: to become a respected writer, a dream that was unattainable in Iran. His first books became instant major successes and won numerous awards. The works of Kader Abdolah touch upon bridging different cultures, identity and its formation, his personal cultural and family background, and exile. Through his books, such as „Klinasto pismo“ and „Kuća imama“, his translations, including „Kur'an“ and „Tisuću i jedne noći“, and his book about the life and work of the mystical Persian poet Rumi, he established himself as a well-known and respected Dutch-Iranian writer. His books have been translated into many languages.
