Goran Gavranović
Goran Gavranović was born in Zagreb quite a few years ago, and for many years now, he’s also been a son-in-law in Pula, so perhaps, one day, if he ever makes it to retirement, he’ll live in Istria. But the chances of that are slim: it’s an undeniable fact that everyone who’s retired has, sooner or later, died — so maybe retirement isn’t the smartest idea after all. He was educated in Zagreb, more or less successfully, and that’s where he works — first as a journalist and editor (he did that at several of Croatia’s better and larger daily and weekly newspapers and their respective online portals), then as editor-in-chief of Express and 24 sata. He is currently the director and board member of “24 sata”. In truth, he’s a lazybones, but still hasn’t gotten the chance to prove it. It’s not enough for him to write, edit, chief-edit, and manage — he also had to go and co-found the Express weekly, the BestBook magazine, and the Fric literary award. Instead of finally proving he’s capable and talented at doing nothing, this charmer keeps writing various non-fiction and other books, mostly in collaboration with Boris Rašeta, such as the popular "10 dana u travnju" (10 Days in April), "8 dana u svibnju" (8 Days in May), and other questionable bestsellers of dubious merit. He doesn’t own much, and from his father he inherited the nickname Gaga, by which most people know him. He is extremely proud of his son Roko, and it is suspected that, together with his wife Vesna, he gave the boy that name in the hope he might escape the family tradition of inheriting the nickname Gaga.
